Bokaro Steel Plantís chief executive officer Anutosh Maitra on Thursday inaugurated the 10th Jharkhand State Archery Championship at Mohan Kumaramangalam Stadium amid a galaxy of stars, including Arjuna Award winners Deepika Kumari, Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia.
The three-day event, which will see 28 teams from different districts of the state vying for top honours, started with an oath-taking ceremony led by Deepika on Thursday morning followed by a march past with members of all teams doing a round of the stadium amid huge cheers.
The march past was followed by a dummy run where archers targeted the bullseye from a 50m distance much to the delight of the audience.
A cultural programme had also been lined up for the event in which students of DAV School, Sector VI, Ayappa Public School and Chinmaya Vidyalaya put up an array of song and dance programmes.
In his address, Maitra welcomed the participants and lauded the efforts of Bokaro District Archery Association for getting the event to the city in collaboration with Bokaro Steel Limited.
Apart from Maitra, the others who graced the inauguration included the likes of BPSCL chief executive officer Rakesh Bhargava, Bokaro steelís executive director (projects) Umesh Kumar, executive director (P&A) N. Mahapatra, among others.
Later, qualification trials for men and women in the 50m and 30m senior category was also held.
