Fake note haul
Fake Indian currency notes with a face value of more than Rs 20 lakh were seized from a gang of five in the Chandni Chowk area on Wednesday night. Police said the notes, in the denomination of Rs 100, were from Nepal. The five, remanded in police custody, have been identified as Sohrab Ali, Dilwar Hossain and Suleman Sheikh, all from Malda, Kunwar Singh from Nepal and Basir Alam from Bihar.
Besu upgrade
The Union cabinet on Thursday approved a bill that seeks to upgrade the Bengal Engineering and Science University (Besu) to an Institute of National Importance.
Printer missing
A palmtop printer used by traffic police for printing receipts for spot fines went missing from the Keshtopur crossing on Thursday morning. A cop had kept the printer on his bike while he was booking an errant taxi driver when it disappeared. |
