Durgapur, Dec. 12: Residents of the constituencies of CPM MLAs Gouranga Chatterjee and Deblina Hembram brought out rallies today to protest the alleged assault on the legislators by Trinamul leaders in the Assembly yesterday.
“We know Gouranga for three decades. He is honest and soft-spoken. What happened in the House was hooliganism. The attack on Gouranga was uncalled for. It was a shame,” said Bhismalochan Bandopadhyay, a retired schoolteacher in Pandabeswar, Chatterjee’s constituency in Burdwan.
In Hembram’s seat Ranibandh in Bankura, roadblocks and street meetings were held. “Such an attack is unprecedented. I have been an MLA twice. I have never seen such violence in the House,” CPM Bankura secretary Amiya Patra said.
