Touts, goon in net

Bhubaneswar: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Wednesday arrested seven criminals and three touts from various stations and ticket booking counters. he cops seized around 5.186kg narcotics, suspected to be brown sugar, from Yeshvantpur-Howrah Express and arrested the person who was carrying it. he suspect has been identified as Abdul Hassan, 41, of Chennai. He was carrying the contraband in 27 packets in a bag. he RPF also seized over 37kg ganja worth over Rs 1.48 lakh from the Puri-Sambalpur Intercity Express.

Four arrests

Sambalpur: Four persons were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Md. Manu, 19, near Ainthapali bus terminus, on Tuesday. olice have arrested Kartik Saha, Ashis Soren, Madan Majhi and Rajan Rout in this connection and seized two sharp weapons and two mobile phones from them.

Three dead

Paradip: Three persons, including a couple, died as lightning struck them on Wednesday afternoon here. At least five others were reported injured. he deceased were identified as Ratnakar Rout, 52, Pushpa Rout, 45, and Dhaneswar Jena, 40. The victims died on the spot.

Life sentence

Bhubaneswar: A local court here has sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for a double murder committed in Balasore district in 2005. he convict, Prashant Kumar Nanda Praharaj, 31, will also have to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000. he convict, who was a tenant of Debendra Roul in Gopalgaon area of Balasore town, had burnt to death his landlordís wife Umarani, 47, and her daughter Parbati, 23, on December 17, 2005.
