Peace catch Zion off-guard, win 2-0

Manipur football

Imphal, Dec. 12: Peace and Humanity Library Youth Organisation defeated Zion Tlang Football Club 2-0 in the qualifying round of the 56th Sir Churachand Memorial Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Zion made several forays into the Peace area but a lack of good strikers failed them in their attempts.

Since the start Zion were in an attacking mood. Both the goals of Peace and Humanity were scored from counter- attacks in the first half.

Y. Gopi scored the first goal in the 43rd minute and team-mate M. Johny scored the second in the stoppage time of the first half.

In the second half, Zion were able to prevent their opponents from increasing the tally but could not restore parity as they failed to convert the chances.

Despite having a good midfield, their strikers lacked penetration in the opponent’s danger zone.

Sub-junior football: District Sports Association, Kakching and District Sports Association, Churachandpur, were locked in a 2-2 draw in the 16th sub-junior boys football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
