Tragic turn to study tour

Kokrajhar, Dec. 12: At least 14 people, including 11 students were injured today after the Mahindra Cruiser in which they were travelling toppled over and fell into a ditch.

According to sources, staff members and 52 Class X students of Kathammurighat High School in Assam’s Barpeta district had gone to Manas National Park on a study tour — in three Tata Wingers and one Cruiser. From there they had gone to Langham town in Bhutan. While returning, the Cruiser fell into a roadside ditch at Nanglam in Bhutan’s Sandrup Jongkar district, injuring all 14 people travelling in the vehicle.

The condition of five — two students, a teacher and two other staff members — is serious and they have been referred to Patsala hospital.

The students whose condition is said to be critical are Sumi Kalita and Karabi Das. Teacher Rajib Deka and two staff members, Geetika Das and Dipamoni Kalita, were also seriously wounded.
