Police on Wednesday arrested two youths who had allegedly stolen four laptops from cars parked on city roads.
“Bablu Pramanik and Gopal Sardar, both in their late 20s, were picked up from Canning in South 24-Parganas following a specific tip-off,” said an officer of Lake police station that had sent the team to arrest the duo.
“They confessed that they had stolen a laptop from a car parked outside Rabindra Sarobar (the area is under Lake police station). The owner had just entered the Sarobar premises for a morning walk. Bablu and Gopal were key members of the gang involved in stealing laptops from parked cars.”
The officer said two “stolen” laptops had been seized from the duo. “Both were lifted from cars parked in the Gariahat area,” the officer said.
“The two said during interrogation that used to carry small glass-cutters with them. They would cut a part of a windowpane of a car and gently push it inside. The gap was wide enough to lift a laptop,” the officer said.
