Teacher shot dead

Patna: A senior teacher of Madhubani-based RK College, Laxman Singh, was shot dead and valuables worth about Rs 10 lakh were taken away by a gang of armed criminals from his house at Rajnagar in Madhubani district late on Tuesday night. olice said the robbers entered the house after breaking the iron grill of the verandah and shot at Singh from close range.

Power cut

Patna: Several areas in Patna would not receive power supply for four hours from 10am on Thursday. The areas include Pirbahore police station, Sabji Bagh, Choudhary market, Shivalay market, Magadh Mahila College, Baripath, Hathua market, Birla Temple Road, Vikas Bhavan, Regent, IMA hall, PMCH, Patna market, GM Road and Patna University.

Suspension

Patna: Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd on Wednesday suspended two engineers, Mukesh Kumar Raman and Dadan Singh, for misconduct, dereliction of duty and incurring revenue loss to the company.

AIIMS order

Patna: The high court on Wednesday disposed of a PIL seeking early completion of Patna AIIMS, without passing any fresh direction.

Plan to block highway

B>n Bhagalpur: Activists and political organisations would stage a protest on December 19 and block a 48km stretch of the National Highway-80 between Ghora and Pirpainty in demand of immediate repair of the thoroughfare. he protesters submitted a letter to district magistrate Prem Singh Meena informing him of their problem and their planned protest. Sources said it takes vehicles four to five hours to cover the stretch and snarls are quite frequent.

Monk tents

B>n Gaya: Ogyen Trinley Dorje, one of the two popular claimants to the post of the 17th Karmapa of the Kagyu sect of Buddhists, on Wednesday inaugurated 210 tents on the campus of Tergar monastery in Bodhgaya. The tents, christened Jammu Dipa Lanka Ra Mahapandala, have been put up to revive the ancient tradition when monks lived in tents.

Criminal held

B>n Ara: Rohtas police on Tuesday arrested Vijay Verma and his three aides from Dinara village in the Bikramgunj sub-divisional area while he was plotting a crime. He was wanted in several criminal cases in Buxar, Rohtas and Aurangabad districts and also in Uttar Pradesh, said a police officer.
