The state government will organise a five-day Christmas carnival on Park Street this year to boost tourism in Bengal.
Tourism minister Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury on Tuesday said at Writers’ Buildings that the festival would be held on December 16, 18, 21, 23 and 25.
Cultural programmes such as Christmas carols, music performances, a vintage car show and food competitions would be organised during the festival, said sources.
All the programmes will be held in Allen Park, at the junction of Park Street and Camac Street.
The minister said the state government would illuminate Park Street up to the Mullickbazar crossing.
Special illumination systems would also be installed at the airport and at Howrah and Sealdah stations to give visitors to the city a festive feeling, he added.
“During this period, thousands of tourists visit the city. We will try to give them a feel of the festival, which could boost tourism,”said the minister.
