Assam concede 115-run lead

Guwahati, Dec. 10: Assam conceded a first-innings lead of 115 runs to hosts Gujarat on the third day of their Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 plate group A match at Ahmedabad today.

Chasing Gujaratís first innings total of 336, Assam resumed their first innings at the overnight score of 180 for four and were all out for 221 in 74.3 overs at lunch today, thanks to a five-wicket haul by C. Gaja.

At close of play today, the home side were batting at 251 for six in 76 overs.

Assamís Sanzow Brahma, who was unbeaten overnight at 45, added five more runs to be the first dismissal today. The remaining five batsmen were dismissed in quick succession as Gaja returned with figures of five wickets for 31 runs. Hardik Patel also took two wickets for 24 runs.

For the hosts, K. Viradiya scored a brilliant knock of 120 (4x9, 6x2) and opener J. Patel contributed 76 runs (4x6). Sajid Khan of Assam took three wickets for 51 runs.

With one more dayís play left, the home side will look for victory by putting Assam in to bat in the morning tomorrow.
