Kill cuffs on CPM leader son

Raiganj, Dec. 9: The son of a CPM councillor accused of operating a firearm racket has been arrested in connection with the murder of two youths last month.

Kingsun Das, 22, the son of ward 20 councillor Tapan Das, was picked up from his house at Paschim Binnagar near here around 11pm on Saturday.

Inspector in charge of Raiganj police station Samir Pal said on November 10 the bullet-ridden bodies of two youths were found in Kashibati and Avor. “We identified the victims as Mohammad Imamuddin and Mohammad Hussain. Both were linked to a firearm racket. They used to procure illegal firearms from Bihar and Bangladesh and supplied them to criminals in Malda and North Dinajpur,” Pal said.

Sources said Kingsun and Ainul, who was arrested after the killings and the attack and exchange of fire with Bhola Pal, had acquired a number of firearms from the youths.

“Ainul and Kingsun were supposed to purchase ten 9mm pistols worth Rs 1 lakh from Imamuddin and Hussain. The hand over was to take place in Kashibati on November 10. But when the youths arrived, they were shot dead by Ainul, Kingsun and gang and the pistols taken away,” Pal said.

Kingsun has been remanded in police custody for three days.
