Guwahati, Dec. 9: Tripura tallied three points by virtue of a first-innings lead from their drawn three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) East Zone match against hosts Assam at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon today.
After conceding a first innings lead of 26 runs yesterday, the hosts today resumed their second innings at overnight 42 for one and declared it at 192 for five in 67.5 overs today.
Tripura were 67 for five in 40 overs in their second innings at close of the final day’s play today.
Assam, who opted to bat first, were all out for 157 in 75 overs on the first day and Tripura posted 183 all out in 108.2 overs yesterday.
Assam middle order batsman Sahil Jain and opener Urooj Rizvi stole the show today with brilliant knocks of 72 not out (4x3, 6x2) and 58 (4x6) respectively. Saurav Saha remained unbeaten on 26 (4x2).
N. Bhowmik and B. Dey of Tripura took two wickets each for 28 and 43 runs respectively.
For Tripura, opener Arkaprava Sinha scored 24 runs (4x3) in the second innings.
Bikash Terang of Assam picked up two wickets for nine runs.Earlier yesterday, R. Saha topscored for Tripura with 41 runs, hitting six boundaries in the first innings.
N. Bhowmik scored 33 (4x6) and B. Debnath remained unbeaten on 32 (4x3).
Medium pacer Avinav Choudhury of Assam hauled five wickets for 38 runs and Akshay Narain scalped three for 34. Bikash Terang picked up the remaining two for 34 runs. Assam, who had to remain content with one point, will meet Odisha in the next away fixture in Odisha from December 12 to 14.
