GTC Academy triumph

Guwahati, Dec. 9: Gauhati Town Club Cricket Academy lifted the Ana-Matin inter-cricket academy (under-17) T20 cricket tournament trophy, defeating hosts Noonmati Cricket Academy by a narrow margin of two runs in a nail-biting finish at Judges Field here yesterday.

GTC Academy, electing to bat first, were restricted to 114 for nine in the stipulated 20 overs and NCA were restricted to 112 for seven in the 20 overs.

Abhinandan Singh topscored for GTC Academy with a quickfire 29 and another 22 came from the bat of Neerah Sharma.

Ratul Dey and Manoj Kumar Barman of NCA took two wickets, each giving away 21 and 24 runs respectively.

For NCA, Subhankar Chakrabarty scored 43 and Abhinash Terang contributed 32.

Sujeet Gowala and Suraj Roy of GTC Academy picked up a wicket each, conceding 10 and 27 runs respectively.

Demise: Former president of the All-Assam Tennis Association and founder chairman of North East Tennis Foundation Prasanna Kumar Sarmah passed away of old age ailments yesterday.

He was 82 and is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
