New Delhi: The International Boxing Association (AIBA) on Saturday mounted pressure on suspended Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (AIBF) when it asked the Indian body for re-elections and to amend its constitution in accordance with the AIBA statutes.
Senior IABF official, PK Muralidharan Raja, who met AIBA president Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, in Yerevan, Armenia, on Friday, said: “The AIBA has asked us to amend our constitution to make it compliant with the AIBA statutes and hold a re-election in the presence of an AIBA observer.
“Once we do that, the AIBA will lift the suspension the moment IOC lifts the ban on the IOA… Because that is the primary reason for our suspension,” Raja claimed.
The AIBA, on Wednesday suspended AIBF, alleging possible manipulations in its elections on September 23.
Following the AIBA statutes, however, would leave no room for the current IABF supremo Abhay Chautala to hold any post in the IABF.
