STARSANDSWIPES

The difficult deol

Director Aanand Rai is ruing the day he decided to cast Abhay Deol for a special appearance in his next, Raanjhnaa. The Sonam Kapoor-Dhanush starrer is being shot up north for the last few months and if loose talk from the set is to be believed, Abhay couldn’t have acted more difficult. Even before he started shooting, Abhay and his entourage made it very clear that he would not work more than eight hours. Initially, Aanand didn’t think much of this request but when Abhay started reporting late on the set - (and leaving on time!), the Tanu Weds Manu director didn’t know how to react. While shooting on the narrow streets of Varanasi, Abhay insisted that he couldn’t work without a vanity van. The crew tried to explain to the Dev D actor that a large vanity van would not fit into the cramped roads but he was in no mood for logic. And there is the little matter of Abhay’s fondness for <BEEP>. Aanand is so traumatised, he has blanked out the entire episode.

Tenant trouble

Barfi! helped Ileana D’Cruz increase her fan base from just the south to the rest of India. But tucked away in a bylane of Bandra in Mumbai is a family that definitely dislikes the petite actress. The story goes that Ileana found new tenants for a two-bedroom home that she owns in Bandra very close to Mehboob Studio earlier this year. The apartment was leased out for two years and both Ileana and her mother assured the tenants that the lease could be extended. So, imagine their shock when they got a call from Ileana last month asking them to vacate the house. Apparently, the actress was waiting to see how she’d be received by Bollywood. Now that she is already shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero with Shahid Kapoor in Mumbai, she is keen to shift base from Chennai. The tenants have been given two months to vacate the apartment. Seeing how tough it is to find a good pad in Bandra, one can’t blame the family for not being Ileana fans!

Paws off, he’s mine!

Star wives have always been wary of allowing their husbands work with actresses who they might have had a fling with in the recent past. But this mother of two has decided that her

50-something husband can’t work with any actress he might have had a thing for throughout his career. Unfortunately for the actor, or rather his directors, that rules out almost all his contemporary heroines. The only actresses who the wife doesn’t feel threatened by include a former beauty pageant winner and a former flame who is now married. As if working with the actor wasn’t already difficult enough, this new diktat is not going to make things easier.
