Airport terminal

Calcutta, Dec. 7: The new terminal of Calcutta airport will be inaugurated on January 23, civil aviation minister Ajit Singh said in the city today.

The New Year’s Eve and January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, were the two dates proposed earlier by the civil aviation ministry.

‘Loba’ whip

Calcutta: Basab Talukdar, the deputy inspector-general of Burdwan range, has been transferred to Kharagpur as DIG of Eastern Frontier Rifles, in what is being seen as the fallout of the Loba clash on November 6. Birbhum superintendent of police Rishikesh Meena was asked to go on leave within 24 hours of the incident and the officer in charge of Durbrajpur, Arnab Guha, was removed on December 4

Gurap bail

Calcutta: Calcutta High Court on Friday granted bail to the secretary of the NGO that ran a home for destitute women in Hooghly’s Gurap. Uday Chand Kumar was arrested by the CID in July in connection with the alleged murder of an inmate.

Axe on cops

Calcutta: Two constables of airport police station were suspended on Friday after a murder accused escaped from their custody during a medical test at Dum Dum municipal hospital.
