Zian Thang pip Moirang by a goal

Imphal, Dec. 6: Zian Thang Football Club, Chandel defeated All Moirang Football Association 8-7 on penalties today at Mapal Kangjeibung. With this victory Zian Thang cros-sed the second hurdle towards entering the main draw of the 56th Sir Churachand Memorial Football Tournament.

Zian Thang is the first-division champion of Chandel district while Moirang is in the super division team list of Bishnupur district.

This is Zian Thang Football Clubís second attempt in the Churachand Memorial Football Tournament but this is the first time that they have crossed the second step towards the main draw.

Both the teams fought hard and at the end of play, the two teams were locked in a 4-4 draw. Moirang drew first blood with Saveson scoring the first goal of the match in the eighth minute. Zian Thang fought back and equalised thr-ough Alower Analís goal in the 48th minute. Saveson scored again in the 85th minute.

Other goal-scorers of Zian Thang were Semilthang who scored two goals in the 49th and 91st minute. P.R Lungam scored a goal in the 49th minute. The other two scorers for Moirang were Abdul Rajat (81th minute) and Somananda (87th minute).

In the penalty shootout, Zian Thang scored four goals while Moirang could manage only three.
