Snatcher nabbed
One person was arrested for snatching a gold chain from a woman at Picnic Garden on Monday night. Pratik Jain of Picnic Garden had lodged a complaint that two bike-borne youths snatched his wife’s chain in front of their house. Police arrested Mona, who has confessed to the crime, but the chain could not be retrieved. His accomplice has fled.
Accident
A couple were killed after being hit by a goods vehicle that had swerved to avoid a crater at Bantala on Basanti Highway on Tuesday.
Scribe dead
Veteran journalist Kanailal Basu died of cerebral haemorrhage in Calcutta on Tuesday afternoon. He was 90. Basu had worked with Hindustan Standard and later Anandabazar Patrika. Basu was also a great lover of classical music and had set up an organisation called Suresh Sangeet Sansad. Family members said Basu’s last rites will be performed on Wednesday morning. |
