Rival spat

Calcutta, Dec. 4: CPM and Trinamul MLAs today had angry exchanges at a meeting convened by Speaker Biman Banerjee after Left legislators demanded that Mamata Banerjee regularly attend the Assembly’s winter session beginning Friday.

“When I demanded that the chief minister should regularly attend the House, (Trinamul ministers) Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mullick protested, saying she need not do so,” CPM MLA Anisur Rahman said. Chatterjee and Mullick were not available for comment.

Biman plea

Calcutta: Left Front chairman Biman Bose on Tuesday urged allies to ensure they don’t contest against each other in the panchayat polls as on earlier occasions and asked them to begin the process of selecting candidates from this month.

Burdwan: Around 150 Citu-affiliated workers of a Burdwan paper mill that is closed for the past 12 years gheraoed assistant labour commissioner Sheikh Hasan for an hour on Tuesday demanding that the factory be reopened.
