Singur advice

Calcutta, Dec 4: CPM state secretariat member Gautam Deb today suggested that chief minister Mamata Banerjee settle out of court the dispute with Tata Motors over the Singur land.

“Mamata should settle the dispute with the Tatas out of court and allow them to build a factory on that land. That will generate jobs,” Deb said.

The government has challenged in the Supreme Court the verdict by Calcutta High Court striking down the act through which the Singur land was taken back from the Tatas.

Deb accused the government of failing to generate jobs.

“We had given land to companies like Wipro and Infosys hoping they would generate employment. However, this government has scant regard for them (companies) and also cares little about creating job opportunities. So the government is shooing away the companies,” Deb said at a Left Front programme in Salt Lake.
