Lawyers stick to cease work

Cuttack, Dec. 3: Proceedings remained stalled in Orissa High Court here for the fifth consecutive day today as there was no let up in the cease work by lawyers, who are demanding arrest of all the persons involved in the attack on a lawyer here on November 23. Many litigants have been suffering because of the cease work for the past five days.

The lawyers had ceased work protesting against “police inaction” in nabbing the persons involved in attacking advocate Ishwar Chandra Das since November 26.

“On Sunday, the Odisha High Court Bar Association decided to continue with the cease work for two more days as the police had failed to arrest all the persons who were involved in the attack on Das. Our future course of action will be decided in a meeting on Tuesday,” said secretary of the association Piyush Mishra.

The police, however, today arrested two persons — Bapina Behera, 24, and Nirodh Behera, 38 — in connection with the attack. Earlier, Sivendra Behera, 28, and Hrudaya Ranjan Muduli, 32, of Bidanasi. Police sources said that efforts were on to nab two others involved in the act.
