Roy calls for CBI probe

Jamshedpur, Dec. 3: Senior BJP leader and former legislator Sarayu Roy today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged incident of IPS officer-turned-MP Ajoy Kumar seeking the help of Maoist leader Samarji to win the July 2011 Jamshedpur bypoll.

Addressing newsmen in Jamshedpur today, Roy expressed his dissatisfaction over the progress made by the CID in the case.

“The CID is going very slow. It is close to 18 months and the investigating agency is yet to make a breakthrough. The matter needs to be probed by an agency like the CBI to establish the truth,” Roy said.

Taking a dig at Kumar, he went to add that the former supercop had erred in seeking the support of rebels to win the election last year.

“He is ambitious and showed that he can go to any extent to grab power in a prestigious constituency,” he said.

On July 1 —the date of election for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat — the BJP veteran had released a CD containing a purported telephonic conversation between Kumar and the CPI (Maoist) leader.

Yesterday, Kumar had alleged that it was on the direction of the state government that the police had conspired to frame him in a false case. Kumar had told newsmen that the voice recorded in the tape was that of Bahadur Oraon, who is currently lodged in Gumla jail.
