Two killed in accidents

Two persons died in separate accidents in the city on Monday.

An elderly man was crushed under the wheels of a bus after he fell off its footboard near Jodhpur Park, while a 17-year-old was run over by a private bus on Garden Reach Road.

Tulshi Chakraborty, 68, was travelling with his wife and daughter when the accident occurred around 2.30pm at the crossing of Gariahat Road and Jodhpur Park second lane, one of the busiest crossings in south Calcutta.

“According to the victim’s wife and daughter, he was standing on the steps when he lost balance and fell off the bus,” said a senior officer of the traffic department.

A private bus ran over Mohammad Yanur at Garden Reach around 6.15am when he was on his way to Howrah. He was taken to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead. The offending bus on route 12B was seized and the driver arrested.

Passengers held

Fifteen persons were arrested from the general second class compartment of the Behrampore-bound Bhagirathi Express at Sealdah station on Monday for forcibly occupying seats by placing handkerchieves and bags.
