Gherao after bomb attack

A group of Adityapur residents on Sunday gheraoed RIT police station to protest against an attack on a civic councillor on Saturday night.

Crude bombs were hurled at Sudhir Chaudhary near NIT at 8.30pm on Saturday. Sub-inspector Rajesh Prakash Sinha said efforts were on to identify and nab the culprits.

Chaudhary, a member of Adityapur Municipal Council’s ward No 27, was attacked while returning home. “I was getting down from my car when I saw two motorcycle-borne youths crossing me. The pillion rider stared at me and then the bike stopped a little distance away. I locked the vehicle and walked to a nearby tubewell to wash my hands, when something fell near me. I realised it was a crude bomb and the two youths on the bike were standing in front of me,” Chaudhary said.

Realising that he was in danger, Chaudhary ran towards his house 50ft away, when an explosion took place.

“It was another bomb that the attackers hurled at me before speeding away towards the NIT bypass road. Later I came out of the house and saw the unexploded bomb,” he said.
