Flesh trade taint on teacher

- Police trace links between accused and politicians

A teacher of a government middle school in Rohtas district was arrested on Sunday for allegedly running a sex racket in the bordering areas of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Mohan Gupta, alias Masterji, the alleged kingpin of the racket, was arrested in the Maoist-dominated Danbar village under the jurisdiction of Rohtas police station.

Rohtas superintendent of police (SP) Manu Maharaj, said a detailed report on the alleged unlawful activities of Gupta, posted as a teacher at Narsingbigha government middle school, has been sent to the government and his dismissal recommended.

“The teacher was running a sex racket for over two years in the garb of a coaching institute, where he used to give tuition to girls,” Manu said.

During interrogation, Gupta, also called Mohan Sonar, reportedly told the police that he used to supply girls to some influential people, including politicians and contractors in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

A woman used to provide him support in the clandestine business, the police said. The woman is a resident of Banjari in Rohtas.

The police added that Gupta, during interrogation, admitted that she used to build contacts with people and supply girls to Gaya and Patna, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Palamau and Lohardutta in Jharkhand. The police quoted Gupta as saying that the girls used to charge between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 for a night, and that the rates varied on the demand and financial condition of the clients.

“The sex racket was being run from a rented accommodation. Gupta being a teacher was widely respected and nobody ever suspected him of the illegal activities,” said Manu, who had led the raid on the brothel.

Manu said the racket came to light after the arrest of nine persons, including five young girls from Lakhibigha locality of Dehri town on Friday.

“Compact discs (CDs) of pornographic films, contraceptives, liquor bottles and undergarments were seized during the raid. All the five girls were taken to Dehri police station for interrogation. However, one of the girls managed to escape from police custody on the pretext of attending nature’s call. Bandana, a woman constable on duty, was suspended for dereliction of duty,” the SP said.

The senior officer said a special police team had been constituted under the supervision of sub-divisional police officer Kamla Kant Prasad, who carried out a raid at Danbar and arrested Gupta and a woman. “We have come to know that CDs of pornographic films were made and supplied to shops selling Hindi and English movie CDs,” Manu said.

The SP said the members of the raiding team would be rewarded for their work. Personnel of the anti-human tracking cell also played an important role in exposing the sex racket, he added.
