Paradip: Anna Hazare on Friday called upon the people of Odisha, especially farmers, to oppose multinationals including Posco, who are setting up industries on fertile farmland.
ddressing a farmers' rally at Jagatsinghpur, Hazare came down heavily on the Centre and the state government for inviting foreign companies to set up plants at the cost of farmers. "The multinationals will earn huge profits, while the industrial projects will destroy local economy, environment and natural resources," he said.
Bhubaneswar: Expelled BJD leader Pyari Mohan Mohapatra on Friday alleged that his telephones and those of his supporters were being tapped by the Naveen Patnaik government. "The provision of telephone interception is being misused by the government against political opponents and even journalists," Mohapatra, who was expelled from the party recently for leading a failed coup against the chief minister in May, told reporters here.

Bhubaneswar: The railway ministry has decided to run two winter special trains through East Coast Railway's jurisdiction. The Santragachhi (Howrah)-Chennai- Santragachhi Express will leave Santragachhi every Sunday between December 2 and 30 and reach Chennai the following day. While returning, it will leave Chennai every Tuesday between December 4 and January 1 and arrive at Santragachhi the following day.
he Hatia-Yesvantpur-Hatia Express will leave Hatia every Thursday between December 6 and 27 and arrive at Yesvantpur the following day. In the return direction, the train will leave Yesvantpur every Saturday between December 8 and 29 and arrive at Hatia the next day.
Bhubaneswar: A jawan of the Cobra battalion of Central Reserve Police Force deployed at Sunabeda in Koraput district committed suicide by shooting himself on Friday afternoon. The deceased, Wasim Hussien, Khan shot himself with his own pistol while on duty in the Maoist-affected district. Police said they were investigating the matter.
