Cuttack, Nov. 30: Orissa High Court will monitor police investigation into the attack on a city-based lawyer, Iswar Chandra Das, by unidentified goons a week ago.
The court decided to take up the matter after the secretary of the bar association submitted a petition seeking intervention against alleged police inaction on an FIR lodged in connection with the incident at Bidanasi police station. The association had ceased work since Monday, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the attack.
Chief Justice V. Gopal Gowda has fixed December 3 to take stock of the investigation on the FIR lodged by Das and directed the inspector in-charge of Bidanasi police station to submit a status report by then.
The court was informed that two persons had been arrested and steps were being taken to arrest other culprits involved in the assault. Two persons of Bidanasi area – Sivendra Behera, 28, and Hrudaya Ranjan Muduli, 32 – have been arrested and are being interrogated. Behera works at a book-binding unit and Muduli is a security guard.
