Paani gets a producer

Paani will at last move from Shekhar Kapur’s Twitter updates to the production floor. After years of staying as that one big idea in the actor-director’s head, his “most ambitious project” is set to see the light of day, with Yash Raj Films deciding to put its production muscle behind Paani. “I have been preparing for this film for a long time, but always wanted an Indian partner that has the same passion for the film as I do and in Adi (Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films) I have finally found that. It’s a huge production that demands futuristic sets and large action pieces. With Yash Raj Films, I have found a perfect home for Paani,” was the word from the Elizabeth maker.

Paani — which explores a world in the future where water has run out — has been in the news for years. Though two years ago it had been more or less confirmed that Hrithik Roshan had been signed on for the film and Twilight star Kristen Stewart was being considered, Kapur now confirms that he is on the lookout for an Indian actor and an actress from the West.

With music by A.R. Rahman, Paani goes on the floors in mid-2013. Will it finally make it to our screens? Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
