Beigh blames Bishan

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir captain Samiullah Beigh has blamed coach Bishan Singh Bedi of “creating rifts” among players.
Bedi was appointed coach last year. “Since he came, the situation has worsened. He has created rifts in the team, he has done a lot of harm to the team,” Beigh said.

Curator ‘shock’

Kanpur: Believe it or not, an electrician is doubling up as pitch curator at the Green Park, the venue which might host an India-Australia Test in March, 2013. Shiv Kumar, who is an electrician with the UP Sports Department, is helped by a tubewell operator in maintaining the pitch.

But the officials are okay with it. “What’s wrong in that? The Green Park belongs to the UP sports department and they are free to appoint anyone,” said Anil Banodha, the deputy director of UP sports department.

Inspection

Ranchi: The KKR officials on Thursday visited the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) Stadium to inspect the facilities. KKR’s Mathew Joy, Abhishek Singh and Vijay Dahiya, along with Catherine Simpson, Tournament Operation Director-IMG, came for the inspection. The Telegraph had reported on November 10 that the JSCA was aspiring to become an IPL-staging centre.

Poor start

La Quinta: Arjun Atw-al paid the penalty of a po-or finish with a bogey and a double in last three holes to return a card of two-over 74 which pushed him to tied 150th place after the first round of the PGA Tour Qualifying School tournament.

Jeev at 20th

Tokyo: Jeev Milkha Singh was lying 20th after hitting a triple bogey on the fourth hole. After the first round of the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup, his card read one-over 71.

Serena award

London: Serena Willi-ams has been named the WTA’s Player of the Year after winning major titles at Wimbledon and the US Open and claiming gold at the London Olympics.

Tennis meet

Calcutta: Prarthana Thombare, Rishika Sunkara, Katherine IP and Shweta Rana moved into the semi-finals of the NBCC ITF Women’s tournament.

Shortlist

Sao Paulo: Lionel Mes-si, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta are the fin-alists for Fifa’s world player of the year award. They were picked from a list of 23 for this year’s Ballon d’Or, with Messi looking to become the first player to win the award four times.

Villa brace

Madrid: Two goals by David Villa on Wednesday eased Barcelona into the fifth round of the Copa del Rey with a 3-1 home win against Alaves to advance 4-1 on aggregate.
