Noisy budget scenes

Bhubaneswar: Finance minister Prasanna Acharya on Thursday presented the supplementary budget for the current financial year with an outlay of Rs 3,932.41 crore to meet additional requirements of the state. he supplementary budget was presented amidst noisy scenes with the Opposition Congress members trying to disrupt the proceedings by demanding bonus to the farmers on paddy.

Conference

Bhubaneswar: The four-day annual conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India, began here on Thursday. Nearly 400 participants from all over the country and leading scientists from USA, Germany, Japan, Malaysia will deliberate on the latest developments that have taken place and their implications in routine practice of medicine.

Telemedicine

Bhubaneswar: Health minister Damodar Rout on Thursday inaugurated regional telemedicine centre at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Director A.K. Mahapatra said the institute would provide specialist tele-consultation services to district headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters hospitals, community health centres, and primary health centres for two hours free of charge every day.

Arrest

Bhubaneswar: Balasore vigilance sleuths on Thursday registered a case against the sub-inspector of police Mayurbhanj, Kailash Chandra Biswal, for demanding a bribe of Rs 8,000 from Tarani Sen Mandal for releasing him on bail according to the orders of the high court. iswal was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. He has been arrested and investigation is on.

Shootout

Sambalpur: Police are yet to make any arrest in connection with a shootout incident, which took place at Brajaraj Nagar of Jharsuguda district on Wednesday. A youth, identified as Bijay Singh, 24, was shot dead in the incident. “The accused have been identified. Police have launched a manhunt to nab them. Special police teams have been formed. Preliminary investigation hinted at a love affair behind the incident,” said sub-divisional police officer of Brajarajnagar Sushil Panigrahi.
