Guwahati, Nov. 29: Hosts Assam had to be content without a gold in the 13th Senior Women’s National Boxing Championship that concluded at Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium here today as gold prospects Bhagyawati Kachari and Pwilao Basumatary had to settle for silver medals, going down to their respective opponents in the finals today.

Bhagyawati bit the dust against better-rated Mizoram girl Jenny R.L. 17-17 by virtue of better individual scores of the latter in the light heavyweight (75-81kg) event final while Pwilao went down to Railways opponent Pavitra 11-20 in the featherweight (54-57kg) final.

Rebecca Lalinmawii of Mizoram, who had ousted home favourite Anita Kahar yesterday, went down to Haryana girl Mamta 9-15 in the flyweight (45-48kg) event final.

Apart from Kahar, Rumi Gogoi, Anjali Muchahary and Minu Basumatary bagged bronze apiece for Assam yesterday.

Nagaland girl M. Meenakumari claimed a silver for her state, losing to Sonia Lather Singh of Haryana 12-14 in bantam weight (51-54kg) final.

Swapna Priya (Rly) wo.
