Nikshep to clash with Mohanty in final

U-16 tennis

Guwahati, Nov. 29: Top seed B.R. Nikshep of Karnataka will clash with fourth seed Bijoy Kumar Mohanty of Assam in the boys’ singles under-16 final of the India Club-AITA Champion Series tennis tournament at India Club courts here tomorrow.

In the semi-final today, Nikshep defeated second seed Assam boy Parikshit Somani 6-3, 6-1 while Mohanty overcame third seed Ishaque Eqbal of Bengal 6-1, 6-1.

In the quarter-finals, Nikshep yesterday eased past Ankeet Kashyap of Assam 6-1, 6-1 while Mohanty had prevailed over Archis Borthakur 6-3, 6-2 in an all-Assam quarter-final.

Mohanty will be hunting for his second crown after he partnered Somani to beat Aswin Dhanasamy of Tamil Nadu and Eqbal 6-3, 6-2 for the boys’ doubles title this afternoon.

India Club Open meet: The India Club Open Tennis Championship will be held here from December 23 to 29.

Releasing the domestic tournaments schedule, Ankush Dutta, joint secretary of All Assam Tennis Association (AATA), said prior to the India Club Open, North East Tennis Foundation here will host the All Assam Junior Championship from December 16 to 22.

Golaghat Tennis Club will host the Golaghat Open All Assam Tennis Championship from January 2 to 6.

The All Assam Tennis Championship at Sibsagar Tennis Club will be held from January 7 to 11 and Zaloni Club of Duliajan will host its All Assam Junior Championship from January 19 to 23.

The AATA was yet to announce the dates for the NF Railway All Assam Juniors, Nagaon Tennis Club’s Nagaon All Assam Championship and Silchar Tennis Club’s All Assam Championship.
