Parade to spot lawyer assaulters

Cuttack, Nov. 28: Cuttack-Bhubaneswar police have decided to conduct a test identification parade of two persons arrested in connection with the assault on a lawyer.

Six unidentified people attacked advocate Ishwar Das on Friday night near his residence at Chahata Nagar on Ring Road here.

Das suffered injuries on his head and right eye.

Lawyers have struck work in the high court and subordinate courts in the city for two days in protest against alleged police inaction.

Today being a holiday, the lawyers have decided to meet on Thursday to chalk out their future course of action.

Yesterday evening, the cops arrested two persons and were looking for four others.

Deputy commissioner of police S. Praveen Kumar said Sivendra Behera, 28, and Hrudaya Ranjan Muduli, 32, of Bidanasi, who have been arrested in connection with the incident, will soon have to stand in a test identification parade.

The test identification parade is necessary as the FIR was registered against six unidentified assailants.

The police said Sivendra works at a book-binding unit, while Hurdaya is a security guard.

Neither have a past criminal record.

It is suspected that Ishwar Das was attacked for taking up a case relating to an ongoing dispute between Chahata Nagar and Bidanasi Kumbhar Sahi puja committees over government land.
