Gold, cash stolen

Gold ornaments worth over Rs 8 lakh and more than Rs 3 lakh have been stolen from the Girish Park flat of Ramesh Soni, a jewellery showroom owner. Soni and his family members were attending a wedding in Salt Lake when the theft happened.

Beaten up

Naseem Ahmed, a taxi driver, was arrested for allegedly assaulting Aftab Alam, 24, a fire officer, when Aftab protested against the taxi being parked in a no-parking zone in front of the fire station on Mirza Ghalib Street on Wednesday. Ahmed had punched Alam in the face.

Suicide

B>nA 55-year-old woman died after consuming phenyl at Lake Gardens early on Wednesday. A resident of Birbhum, Anjali Ghoshal was in Calcutta to visit her elder daughter.

Protest

B>nBJP members of Rajarhat staged a 12-hour sit-in at the Kestopur crossing off VIP Road on Thursday to protest police inaction in nabbing the group that had allegedly assaulted their leaders on Monday.
