Top seeds march ahead

Guwahati, Nov. 27: Top seed Assam girl Priyana Kalita today booked a semi-finals berth while boys’ top seed B.R. Nikshep of Karnataka made it to the quarter-finals in the India Club-AITA Champion Series under-16 tennis championship at the India Club courts here.

In the round of eight, Kalita defeated Assam girl Nazia Ahmed 6-1, 6-3 while Maitry Phukan and Pratiksha Sharma of Assam bit the dust in the same round today.

Rutvi Shah of Gujarat made short work of Maitry 6-2, 6-0 while Shilpi S. Das of Odisha overcame stiff challenge from Pratiksha for a 7-6 (7-0), 7-5 victory in the quarter-finals.

In the boys’ singles pre-quarterfinals, Nikshep blanked out Assam opponent Shakib Ahmed 6-0, 6-0 and Ankeet Kashyap of Assam overcame Sahidul Islam (Assam) 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.

Aswin Dhanasamy of Tamil Nadu eased past Bengal boy Ankit Mantry 6-0, 6-3 while Parikshit Somani of Assam blanked out another Assam boy, Ronit Bora, 6-0, 6-0.

Ishaque Eqbal of Bengal beat Assam opponent Raunak Bora’s 6-3, 6-1 while Santosh Acharya defeated Satyam Bora 6-4, 6-3 in an all-Assam encounter.

Assam boys Archis Borthakur and Bijoy Mohanty booked quarter-final berths, blanking out state boys Aman B. Das 6-0, 6-0 and Tathagat T. Gogoi 6-0, 6-0.
