Rift in IOA wide open

New Delhi: The rift within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) widened on Monday, when several important members pulled out of the elections to be held on December 5.

All of them, however, are known to be supporters of Randhir Singh, who withdrew his nomination for the post of president on Sunday, leaving boxing federation chairman Abhay Chautala as the lone candidate in the fray.

Though all these members, which included JS Gehlot (president, kabaddi federation), Jagdish Tytler (president, judo federation) and Raninder Singh (president, rifle association), said they were withdrawing on their own, it was evident the Randhir-led group wanted to stay away from elections.
