Ex-cop arrested

Dibrugarh, Nov. 26: Police today arrested former Barboruah police station officer-in-charge Dibyajyoti Dutta in connection with the case of killing of Mahendra Sonowal on November 13. Dutta was released after he was granted interim bail. Today, Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union staged a protest demanding the arrest of Dutta and adequate compensation to Sonowal’s family.

Liquor seized

Golaghat: A joint police and excise department team seized three trucks of illicit liquor on Monday. The liquor was smuggled from Bandardewa in Sonitpur district to Manipur.

Herd attack

Sivasagar: A herd of nearly 15 elephants destroyed over 10 houses and crops in Tawkak tea estate on Sunday night.

Threat

Sivasagar: Altogether 26 groups led by All Tai Ahom Students’ Union threatened to stage a shirtless protest if the government failed to provide a job within 15 days to the girl, who was allegedly molested by army personnel at Demow on July 13.

Voter list

Jorhat: The district administration on Monday announced the list of voters and polling stations of Jorhat subdivision for the panchayat elections.

Bodies found

Dibrugarh: Bodies of three students of Ramkrishna Mission Higher Secondary School of Naruttam Nagar in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh were recovered from the Buridihing river on Monday. Five students had gone to bathe in the river on Sunday afternoon when Habam Apa, Hage Tomo and Dogin Mize, drowned.

Poachers

Jorhat: Two poachers were arrested at Rong Bong Wey village in Karbi Anglong on Monday morning.

Rounds fired

Jorhat: Police on Sunday night fired several rounds in the air at Mo-nai Majhi Tinali when a suspected a gang of thie-ves in a three-wheeler jumped a signal and fled.

IED blast

Imphal: An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at the gate of a house of a businessman, Khundongbam Surjit, at Wangkhei in Imphal East on Monday morning. No one was injured in the blast.
