Calcutta: Injury-prone pacer James Pattinson mill miss the Australian summer as he has suffered a left side strain/rib injury, Cricket Australia informed on Sunday.
“James Pattinson sustained a left lower rib injury, similar to a ‘side strain’, on day three of the Adelaide Test which will effectively rule him out of contention for the remaining Tests this summer. Whilst side strains are not uncommon in bowlers, James’ injury involves some damage to the end of the rib and will need further investigation at the completion of this Test to determine the best course of management and the time frame to return to bowling,” Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
The Proteas, meanwhile, have named all-rounder Ryan McLaren as cover for various injured players in the their squad for the final Test of the series, starting at Perth from Friday.
McLaren’s only previous Test match was against England, at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium, in 2010.
