New Delhi: Captain Shikhar Dhawan led from the front, scoring his 15th first-class century, and youngster Unmukt Chand hit a composed unbeaten 134 to help Delhi finish the opening day at 287 for one against Tamil Nadu in their Ranji Trophy Group B match, here on Saturday.
Sent into bat, the openers stitched together a 205-run partnership to put Delhi in a commanding position.
Dhawan scored a fluent 104 before being dismissed by off-spinner R. Aushik Srinivas five minutes ahead of the tea break. His 175-ball knock was laced with 18 fours. Unmukt’s unbeaten 228-ball knock was studded with 16 fours and two sixes.
In the Punjab-Saurashtra Ranji Trophy Group A match, medium pacer Sandeep Singh returned a career-best seven-wicket haul to help the hosts dismiss Saurashtra for a mere 90 in their first innings.
Sandeep conceded just 25 runs in his 11 overs to account for seven Saurashtra batsmen after Punjab opted to field. At stumps, however, Punjab were reeling at 125 for five.
