Jethmalani slams BJP on CBI

New Delhi, Nov. 24 (PTI): Senior BJP MP Ram Jethmalani today attacked his party for criticising the appointment of the new CBI director and said the government’s decision has “averted national calamity”.

A day after leaders of the Opposition in Parliament, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding that Ranjit Sinha’s appointment as CBI chief be “kept in abeyance”, Jethmalani alleged the BJP’s criticism of the government was “instigated” by a “most undesirable rival” of Sinha.

The veteran lawyer’s attack on his party was lapped up by the government, with information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari saying he rarely agreed with Jethmalani but this was one instance when he did.

Jethmalani, who only recently went public with his demand for the resignation of BJP president Nitin Gadkari, hailed the government’s decision saying, “for a change, (it) has averted national calamity”.
