Dhanbad, Nov. 24: Recklessness on the part of a motorbike rider snuffed out three young lives on the road between Bokaro and Giridih this afternoon.

The three youngsters on the bike were crushed to death under the wheels of a speeding bus when they took a sudden u-turn on Grand Trunk Road, about 11km from Dhanbad, around noon today. The bus, which was also speeding, then lost control and rammed against a stationary truck, injuring five passengers in the process.

According to eyewitnesses, the motorbike was coming from Kandra and going towards Govindpur, when it took a sudden sharp turn on Grand Trunk Road near Kaladih-Kandra (Dhanbad). The bus, which was coming from the opposite side, could not stop on time and ran over the bike, killing the three who were not wearing helmets.

The three deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Neeraj Kumar Ram, son of BCCL employee Dhanik Lal Dome, 18-year-old Amit Kumar son of Syndicate Bank employee Manik Ram and 20-year-old Vicky Kumar son of Kuldip Dome. All lived in Koyla Nagar, Dhanbad.

Passers-by rushed the injured to Pataliputra Medical College and Hospital, where the condition of bus passengers Mithilesh Kumar Tewary and Obed Soren was stated to be serious.

The three boys were declared brought dead at a Govindpur hospital.
