Mark to resume duties

London: Referee Mark Clattenburg, cleared of making a racist remark to a Chelsea player, will return to the Premier League on Sunday as the fourth official at the Tottenham Hotspur-West Ham United match at White Hart Lane. After that relatively low key return, his first match back in control will be at St Mary’s on Wednesday when Southampton play Norwich City. However, investigations by both the Metropolitan Police and the English FA found there was no case to answer. The FA, in a statement on Thursday, said he was free to resume his duties.

Soccer tourney

Calcutta: TCS A will meet Concentrix in the Main Pool final, while Cognizant A will face HSBC Electronics in the Losers Pool final of the Rangers Mercantile 5-a-side soccer tournament on Saturday. In the semi-finals of the Main Pool, TCS A edged past Panchwati Resorts 1-0, while Concentrix beat British Deputy High Commission 5-4 via tie breaker. Cognizant A beat US Consulate 1-0 while HSBC Electronics defeated M.N. Dastur 2-0.

Sahaj shocked

Chennai: M. Mahalakshmi caused a big upset by defeating GM Sahaj Grover in an exciting Nimzo Indian game in Commonwealth Chess Championships, here, on Friday. Sergei Tiviakov of The Netherlands won both the games to stay in lead after the second round.
