New Delhi: The much-awaited Indian Olympic Association (IOA) elections on December 5 plunged into uncertainty when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) threatened to suspend the IOA unless the polls were held as per the Olympic Charter.
Incidentally, the IOC directive came a few hours after the Delhi High Court rejected a petition by a Delhi-based lawyer to stall the election process.
Making it clear that the process of elections under the Government of India sports code would be unacceptable, IOC president Jacques Rogge and his Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) counterpart Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah said the violation of Olympic Charter would not be tolerated.
