Case against students

Sambalpur, Nov. 23: A case has been registered against five students of Veer Surendra Sai medical college of Burla for allegedly assaulting another student on November 19.

The father of the victim, first-year medical student, Sidharth Tripathy, who was suspended by the medical college authorities on November 19, has lodged a complaint with the police.

The college council suspended Sidharth for one year for his alleged involvement in an attack on second-year students during a picnic on November 18. Sidharth had admitted to his fault.

However, the father of the student alleged that the second-year students had assaulted Sidharth.

A source said: “A group of second-year students had gone on a picnic to Nrusinghnath of Padmapur in Bargarh district on November 18. They had an altercation with a group of goons. The goons manhandled some of the medical students. Bargarh police had arrested the culprits.”

“Sidharth’s father Satyanaryana Tripathy lodged the complaint at Burla police station. A case has been registered against five medical students — Palas Majhi, Pinaki Dash, Suryakanta Mohapatra, Suraj Jena and Suraj Sharma. Police are investigating the matter,” said investigating officer S. Mallick.
