4 NDFB men held
Kokrajhar, Nov 23: The army apprehended four suspected NDFB cadres in the Bijni police station area in Chirang district. The youths have been identified as Kalicharan Daimary, 48, Purno Boro, 45, Burachalata Basumatary, 45 and Mohen Boro, 28. The army said they recovered three handmade rifles and sharp weapons. However, the family members of these men said they were civilians.
Elephant dies
Tezpur: A 12-year-old female elephant died on Thursday night at Paneri tea estate in Udalguri district after getting stuck in a trench. The elephant was part of a 80-member-herd that was passing through the garden when it fell into the trench.
CM’s order
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday instructed all departmental heads to reconcile fund utilisation figures with the accountant general’s office by December. Non-submission of utilisation certificate will affect fund flow to the state next fiscal, sources said. Gogoi will hold another review meeting in February.
