Guwahati, Nov. 22: The All India Football Federation will compensate the Assam Football Association (AFA) for the cancelled India-Yemen international friendly, scheduled for November 14, by allotting another international friendly here on February 6 next year.
AFA secretary and AIFF vice-president Ankur Dutta said the opponent was yet to be ascertained “but it will be one from Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines or Oman and it will be a Fifa date match.
“We are going to request the state government to improve the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium facilities here in compliance with international football venue standards,” Dutta added.
The AFA is going to host a Fifa member associations’ coaching course for AFC licensed coaches here from November 25 to 30.
The AFA secretary added that Assam have withdrawn from the under-12 and under-13 nationals, under way at Kalyani in West Bengal. The teams were being allegedly discriminated against by the organising committee by not sending the state teams for age verification after disqualifying them for fielding allegedly overaged players.
On the Santosh Trophy senior nationals, he said Assam would be playing in the qualifiers in Uttar Pradesh under the new format.
He also disclosed that Morning Star Club, Diphu, were trying to meet the 2nd division I-League criteria for participation. Green Valley SC, Guwahati and Gauhati Town Club meet the qualifying norms, he said.
