Nun rape bail

Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Wednesday granted bail to two persons accused in the Kandhamal nun gangrape case. The high court allowed the bail petitions of Manguli Behera and Dilu Mohanty, who were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department-Crime Branch sleuths in Phulbani in March 2009 and May 2011 respectively. As of today, bail has been granted to 22 of the 26 persons arrested in connection with the Kandhamal nun gangrape case.

Capital probe

Bhubaneswar: The additional director of the state health department on Wednesday visited Capital Hospital to inquire into an allegation of corruption against gynaecologist Khetrabasi Thatoi, who had been trapped by the vigilance sleuths for taking a bribe of Rs 2,000. The alleged incident had taken place in May 2010. Officers of the state health department on Wednesday verified the documents.

Workshop

Bhubaneswar: The Kendriya Sahitya Akademi's two-day literary workshop at the Red Cross Bhavan on “Odia Short Stories: Past, Present and Future” ended here on Wednesday. The event featured deliberations by eminent Odia literatteurs such as Mahapatra Nilamani Sahu, Bibhuti Patnaik, Satakadi Hota, Angshuman Kar, Tarunkanti Mishra, Binapani Mohanty, Adhyapaka Biswaranjan, Gourahari Das, Dash Benhur and many others. The writers discussed subjects such as Fakir Mohan and his contemporaries, pre-independence and post-independence Odia short stories and future of Odia short stories.
