Suspension

Shillong, Nov. 21: United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has been suspended by the party leadership with effect from today.

The decision was taken by the UDP parliamentary board under the chairmanship of party president Donkupar Roy. The board also decided to serve a showcause notice to the legislator representing Nongkrem, asking him why he should not be “expelled”. Basaiawmoit has been asked to submit his reply in a week.

Basaiawmoit was given time till November 16 to inform the party whether he would seek reelection as a UDP nominee in the 2013 Assembly polls. However, the legislator did not reply.
