Headmaster abducted

Golaghat, Nov. 21: A 53-year-old headmaster of Kowani LP School on the outskirts here was abducted today.

Police sources said four persons, suspected to be members of a militant organisation, arrived at the school near Nambor reserve forest bordering Karbi Anglong district this afternoon when Govind Goswami was about to leave for home at nearby Kowani village. He was taken away at gunpoint.

Goswami later contacted his son over telephone informing him that he has been kidnapped.

Reacting to the incident, the local unit of AASU said it would take out a procession from of the Golaghat DCís office tomorrow. It has also set a 48-hour deadline for the administration to ensure the safe release of Goswami. It has threatened to block NH 39.

Golaghat deputy commissioner Sanjib Gohain Boruah said the police were conducting search operations. He said details were awaited.
