Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted transport secretary B.P. Gopalika two more weeks to publish advertisements in leading dailies containing a list of those entitled to use beacons on cars.
The secretary had failed to carry out an October 19 order of the court asking him to publish the advertisements in 30 days. After the deadline passed on November 19, the division bench of Justice Asim Kumar Roy and Dipak Saha Ray summoned him.
Appearing in court on Wednesday, Gopalika sought unconditional apology for his inability to carry out the order on time. He also prayed for two weeks to obey the order, which the division bench granted.
The issue of beacon misuse had come under the high courtís scanner around two-and-a-half months back after the owner of a vehicle charged with illegally fitting a beacon filed for anticipatory bail.
